From Amazon vouchers and free trials of Amazon Prime to flash sales and tricks for free delivery.
Let’s face it, Amazon is probably the one website that most people will use at some point each year, so it helps to have a voucher or discount stored up. Here are the best deals at the moment. Read on, and use these quick links to get an idea of the offers I’ve found:

Amazon gift voucher and top-up offers
There are some decent offers throughout the year to watch out for.
£5 off £25 spend for some
If you’re eligible this offer allows you to save £5 off a £25 spend on anything sold by Amazon (so not third parties which are fulfilled by Amazon). If you can use the offer you’ll need to enter the code MYDISCOUNT5 at checkout. It expires 29th March 2020 or until 10,000 codes have been used.
£20 Amazon voucher when you open up an Amazon Platinum credit card
New applicants who are successful in getting one of Amazon’s Platinum credit cards will get a £20 gift voucher, and
Plus you’ll be able to spend immediately on Amazon while you wait for your card. You’ll earn 1.5% back on Amazon purchases if you have Prime, 0.75% if you don’t. You’ll only get 0.25% elsewhere, so I wouldn’t use it at other shops as there are better options.
Free credit when you top-up your account or buy a gift card
It’s worth trying even if you’ve used a similar promotion. However you can normally only qualify once every couple of years. Check the offer is displayed when you click through. If not, it could mean it’s ended or you’re not eligible. At the time of writing the current deal will end on 31st March 2020 – though it’s often extended.
£6 extra when you top up by £80
Similar to the gift card promotion, here you top up your Amazon account and get some extra credit added. The promo value changes. At the moment it’s top up by £80 and get £6 added. It’s only for anyone who hasn’t topped up their account in the last 36 months.
2% off digital gift cards
There’s a great trick where you can save 2% off on digital Amazon gift vouchers, and there’s no limit to how many you can get.
* I’ve been told by a reader this has ended though I don’t have Kids Pass to check. Do let me know if you can still find this on the app or website*
Amazon Prime offers
Amazon Prime is Amazon’s big membership scheme. I’ve got it thanks to the deals listed below and use it a lot for free delivery and to stream film and TV. You can learn more in my comprehensive Amazon Prime review.
Get a 30 day free Amazon Prime trial
You know the drill here. You get free next day delivery, Amazon Prime Instant Video, access to Amazon Prime Now and loads of other goodies. It’s normally £79 a year but you can get a free 30-day trial. You used to be able to do this every 12 months, but it’s recently changed to once per account. You can always try your luck (you never know), but if you’ve not yet taken out a trial, I’d wait until you’ve a lot of spending coming up, or a big sale such as Prime Day or Black Friday (more on these below).
Get free Amazon student for six months, then £39 a year
If you have a student card you should also be able to join Amazon Student. This is essentially Amazon Prime. You get six months free, then 12 months half price. It’s possible Amazon might ask for additional proof you are a student.
£10 off a £50 Amazon Prime Now order
Amazon Prime Now offers one or two hour delivery via the Amazon Prime Now app.
If you’ve got Amazon Prime (you can get a 30-day free trial) you can use the service, though it’s not available in every part of the country. Eligible cities include London, Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow.
Once you’ve got Prime and found out if it’s available where you live, use the code PRIMENOW10 to get £10 off. Min spend is £50 – though you can buy gift cards.
Amazon Prime Now has less on offer than the normal online store but does have groceries.
I used this when it launched and bought some nice gin – though sadly I’ve been informed by a few readers that the deal now excludes booze.
Free Kindle book every month
Prime members can also nab one of six titles every month for free. There’s normally a mix of genres and once you pick your book you can send it to your Kindle.
Amazon device deals
There are offers most months, so if it’s at full price you should wait. For the Echo speakers I’ve benchmarked a good price based on the deals I often see. I’d aim to pay:
-
- under £60 for an Echo (rrp £89.99)
- under £30 for an Echo Dot (rrp £49.99).
- under £25 for a Fire TV stick
- £90 or less for a Kindle Paperwhite
£30 off an Amazon Echo Show 5
The price has dropped by 38% from £79.99 to £49.99 for this smart screen. It’s price matched at Argos and Currys if you don’t want to buy from Amazon
Amazon sales and coupons
Prime Day 2020 deals
Prime Day – Amazon’s biggest sale – happens each year around July 11th (Amazon’s birthday). In 2019 it was the 15th and 16th July. More here on whether it’s actually any good.

Black Friday 2020
The Black Friday week of deals is at the end of November (in 2020 it’ll be the 27th), but the sale starts before this and carries on after.
You need to have a Prime membership to get the best deals, but the 30-day free trial will give you that.
I’ll list the best Black Friday deals in November on my Black Friday deals page.
How good are Prime Day and Black Friday on Amazon?
In 2017, 2018 and 2019 there were some great offers on Amazon tech on Prime Day and Black Friday such as the Amazon Echo (47% off), Amazon Fire TV and Kindles. You could also try additional Prime services such as Amazon Music Unlimited and Amazon Dash for far less than normal.
There were also decent offers on TVs, stand mixers, booze, DVD, clothes and much much more. There are also hundreds of special Lightning Deals. You can see how my 2018 purchases fared over the next 12 months and whether they really were bargains.
With both sales it’s important to remember that not all the deals are the best price. Some are simply old stock that needs clearing, while other items are often as cheap throughout the year. I’d recommend using uk.camelcamelcamel.com to see the price history before making any purchase
Amazon Business offers
Every now and then there are offers such as £50 off for new Amazon Business users. I’ll update here as and when.
It can take time to set up the account but you should be approved in around three days and the code is valid for just 48 hours after verification.
My top Amazon money saving tricks
I’ve written a separate article about how to save even more money at Amazon, including the following:
Hundreds of coupons to use at Amazon
This page lists loads of coupons you can use to save at Amazon. You “collect” the voucher and the discount is automatically added to checkout. When I added this there was a typically random collection of products including chocolate, WD40 and hair straighteners.
Get free delivery every time
These little tricks will give help you save money on delivery if you’re shy of the £20 minimum order.
Andy,
Thank you so much! I’m glad I caught this just in time for xmas! Will definitely be signing up!
You didn’t use the code last year to get gin. You can’t use the code on alcohol. Pure lies
Hi Jane, they must have changed the terms of the code. Good for people still to use the code to know! Thanks.
Tried to use the £10 off £40 code to buy whisky. Wouldn’t let me. Not valid on alcohol. ☹️
Ah rubbish. I stocked up on loads when I got it.
If you’ve got kids….when they’re invited to friends birthday parties, buy a CD for the present then your own child has access to the digital content via Amazon Music…..bonus
Right, everyone is getting a CD from me at Christmas then…
Wow that is so helpful Andy! Thanks for sharing. I tried to avoid it as I don’t want to spend any money at all, but it’s certainly helpful for presents etc.
Yes, the temptation is huge isn’t it. I was quite subdued though ended up with two bottles of vodka, some lint rollers and a Friends box set. Not sure what this says about our life…
Hi Andy, just to let you know that the section on this blog where you tell people about Amazon Prime for 30 days free, you have put the cost as £79 per month instead of per year! Thought you might want to rectify this.
Oh right! Will fix it now
Hi Andy, I can’t work out how to apply the £5 promotion for using Amazon Assistant. I have installed it and a message came up about the code. But when I checkout (with Amazon only items) the £5 desn’t come off. Can you help?
First check there isn’t a box to tick below the payment choices lost. If not, try emptying your basket, closing down amazon and clicking through again. It might work then.
Or get on live chat and see if they’ll help!
I was interested in buying a couple of Echo’s with the deal stacking but I noticed that Amazon Prime and Amazon Student doesn’t apply the same for more than 1
One Echo
£89.99 for £51.99 – 42.23% discount
Two Echo
£179.98 for £123.98 – 31.11% discount
It’s still a great deal but unsure how the more than 1 Echo discount applies?
I think you can do it twice as separate transactions
Does anyone know if you can get a top up offer again by using a different email address? I assume you can’t but worth asking, though I suspect Amazon track it by address rather than email address so you can’t do this.
Would be nice to use a new email address to make a new Amazon account to take advantage of the £10 credit with first £40 top-up promotion again.
Yes
I opened one for my wife in nov as i couldnt get prime as already had the trail twice. Worked for me! Worth a go anyway nothing to lose
